On March 6, 2012, Google opened their digital doors to offer one-stop shop to find and enjoy apps, games, movies, TV shows, music and books. Before that, Android users had to get apps, games, movies and TV shows from the Android Market, music from Google Music and e-books from the Google eBookstore. Google merged them all into one portal for the convenience of the users.
In recent five years, Google Play has grown to more than 1 billion active users in 190 countries across the globe. There is literally so much to explore from millions of apps, 40 million songs, 5 million books and more movies than ever.

Google Play grew much faster than Apple App Store in year 2014 both in terms of applications published and developers creating apps for the platform.
Google Play is also cracking down on fraudulent apps and will limit the visibility and/or remove those applications from the Google Play Store which are violating company’s User Data Policy by March 15, 2017. Users can also pre-register for amazing games in the Play store.
