Careem, one of the most popular ride-hailing apps, has started its pilot project of Careem Bus Service in Cairo, Egypt couple of days ago. Meanwhile, there are rumors that Careem Bus Service for Pakistan is also in pipeline to provide affordable inter-city travel to the people of Pakistan.
Media reports quoted Mudassir Sheikha, CEO Careem saying that Cairo is the first city where they are testing waters to expand into mass-transportation business. While talking about Careem’s efforts to expand its business, Mudassir said:
“Our research identified that car ride-hailing service is not accessible for all the consumers while there is also a shortage of cars. The situation compelled us to offer affordable bus service. Cairo is just the start. Careem’s move into mass transportation will have a huge and positive impact across the region.”
Careem Bus Service
As per details, commuters will be able to choose their pickup and drop-off locations on a bus route that suites their time. The bus service will offer fix-fare that will be around 60 to 70 percent cheaper than regular Careem Go ride. The Careem Bus Service is cash only as for now but the Dubai-based company plans to allow payment through in-app wallet in future.
The bus service will feature a 13-seater air-conditioned bus, which will have stops at various landmarks in the city. Careem will add more routes in the future and modify existing ones after monitoring interest and feedback from customers.
Careem plans to eventually launch this service in all 100 plus locations that Careem is currently operating, however, its immediate plans are to expand this service to Pakistan and Saudi Arabia .
