Facebook, the most popular social media network, introduced the Lite version of their Messenger app for the subscribers from countries having slower internet speeds. Facebook Messenger Lite was originally launched for Kenya, Tunisia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Venezuela while the latest news from Facebook revealed that they have expanded the Lite app to 132 more countries and territories.
It is noteworthy that the overall size of Messenger Lite app is kept under 10 MB making it faster to install and load on slower networks. Moreover the Lite version has the same features and user interface as the full version except for the Stories Feature. Messenger Lite was built to give people a great Messenger experience, no matter what technology they use or have access to.
Facebook said in a blog post:
Messenger Lite is under 10MB, so it’s fast to install and quick to start up. It includes Messenger’s core experiences such as messaging, sending and receiving photos and links, and receiving stickers. Messenger Lite uses the same bolt logo as Messenger, but with colors reversed. The bolt is blue with a white chat bubble background.
More than 1 billion people use Facebook Messenger every month around the globe. With Messenger Lite, more people can stay in contact, regardless of network conditions or storage limitations on their Android devices.
In Pakistan, in slow network areas (Where 3G or 4G is not available yet), people are using Facebook Lite as this is lite version and use less internet data.
