Samsung, the biggest name in Android market, has been working on Galaxy X – the real foldable smartphone for quite long time. We’ve seen a number of patents being filed by the South Korean tech giant over the last couple of years and come through rumors that the ‘mysterious device’ is about to launch but that could not happen due unspoken reasons.

It was said in the most recent report that the Galaxy X would make its debut in December 2018 with best user experience and the real foldable technology. However, new words on the street are that the foldable device might finally roll out early next year.

The logic behind the latest reports falls into the past trend of Samsung in bringing its Galaxy S series phones just ahead of the Mobile World Congress (MWC) tech trade show that is annually held in the month of February. Whereas, the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10 Plus are rumoured to be unveiled in January next year, it is speculated that Samsung wishes to debut its first foldable phone at MWC 2019.

Park Hyung-woo, an analyst at Shinhan Financial, reveals:

Parts affiliates and first-tier subcontractors will begin supplying parts to Samsung Electronics’ handset division beginning in November, at the earliest, with the company assembling the phone aiming for a launch next year.

If the claim comes true, Samsung might start assembling the Galaxy X in November this year with an aim to make the device available in global markets by mid-February 2019. However, some sources claim that the company may delay its launch if the phone does not deliver optimal user experience.

Based on these speculations, it is likely that before unleashing the smartphone to general audience at MWC 2019, the South Korean tech giant may showcase it first to its carrier partners and select clients through a private conference at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2019 event in January.

Galaxy X – Expected features

The galaxy X is said to have three display panels, two on the inside and one residing on the outside. The outer display would reportedly be 4.5-inches in size while the inner two together would make a whole 7.3-inches screen upon unfolding the device. It is likely to borrow some specs from the upcoming Galaxy S10.

Samsung is reported to produce the smartphone in limited numbers at the beginning; from 300,000 to 500,000 units in its initial production. If the company’s first foldable device manages to salvage positive reception, the company may launch a more mainstream foldable phone that may get unleashed alongside the Galaxy Note 10 in the third quarter of 2019.

Galaxy X – Pricing

Don’t get too excited with the features of Galaxy X as it would be priced much higher than the current high-end devices. Fresh information reveals that the foldable venture of Samsung will be carrying a price tag of above $1,800 (~PKR 215,000). Also, do keep in mind that nothing is officially confirmed as of yet, so the price and the release date could possibly vary.
