Huawei, the Chinese smartphone brand, has unveiled long awaited and much rumoured device Mate 10, rather several Mate 10s for that matter. There are exactly three variants of Mate 10 that is Mate 10, Mate 10 Pro and Mate 10 Porsche Design. The first two are geared towards the mainstream consumers whereas the latter is a high end luxury model; limited edition for special customers.

Features

As leaked earlier, Huawei follows today’s trend and brings 18:9 aspect ratio ‘FullView’ display for the Mate 10 family. However, there is a curved back, designed for making it easier to hold despite large size of the device. Unfortunately, in true 2017 fashion, Huawei has also removed the headphone jack like iPhone 8 and Note 8.

Huawei Mate 10 has a 5.99 inch QHD (2560 x 1440) IPS LCD display while the Mate 10 Pro features a 6.0 inch Full HD+ (2160 x 1080) resolution OLED screen. Huawei has also added water and dust resistance to the Mate phones this time around. The Mate 10 has a meagre IP 53 rating while the Pro has an IP 67 rating (same as the iPhone 8).

Another key difference between the two siblings is the fingerprint sensor; that of Mate 10 lies on the front while the Pro’s sensor affixed on the back. Huawei claims that the fingerprint sensors unlock the phones in 0.33 seconds time.

Under the hood, there is an octa-core HiSilicon Kirin 970 chip in the Mate phones, proving all those early rumours true. On the memory front we have combo of 4/64 GB, 6/128 GB and 6/256 GB for the Mate 10. On the other hand, the Mate 10 Pro brings 6/64 GB, 6/128 GB and 6/256 GB RAM and storage combination. Whereas a special version of the Mate 10 Pro will also be released with 8 GB RAM and 256 GB storage.

Huawei brings Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro running on Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box with company’s own EMUI 8.0 skin on the top. Following the footsteps of Samsung Dex, Huawei has also introduced a PC mode and split screen app functionality with the Mate 10 family.

As for as camera features of Mate 10 and its siblings are concerned, Huawei has used Summilux-H 1/1.6 Leica lenses. The Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro are equipped with 12 MP RGB + 20 MP Monochrome sensors with an f/1.6 aperture at the rear. In addition there is a Dual LED flash, OIS and a hybrid PDAF+Laser autofocus.

Huawei has ensured extremely powerful battery backup for the Mate 10 trio making them 30% more efficient than the Mate 9. The phones have a 4,000 mAh unit supported with fast charging and wireless charging options; the Mate 10 siblings can charge up to 58% in 30 minutes.

Price and Availability

Huawei has set European pricing at €699 ($824) for the Mate 10, €799 ($942) for the Mate 10 Pro, and a staggering yet unsurprising $1,395 ($1,645) for the Porsche Design Mate 10 Pro.

Huawei makes it clear to bring Mate 10 to more than 15 countries and regions including Spain, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Singapore and Australia somewhere in the late October. On the contrary Mate 10 Pro will make its way to more than two dozen countries, including Germany, France, Italy, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand in mid-November.

We expect to see Huawei Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro in Pakistan somewhere in late November. Keep visiting these pages to know exact release date and price tags for the Mate 10 duo.
