Huawei, the leading Chinese tech giant, unveiled the most-rumored P20 series in a dedicated event held in Paris and the smartphone photography has achieved new highs with the triple camera setup of Huawei P20 Pro. Keeping its tradition of unveiling a new Porsche design smartphone by partnering with a German automobile manufacturer, Porche, Huawei has also unveiled a new Mate RS.

Huawei has crossed another milestone by introducing a gigantic 512GB internal storage and a triple camera setup with most pixel counts in the Porsche Design Huawei Mate RS but twice as expensive as the iPhone X. frankly speaking, the Mate RS is the most beautiful smartphone in design and there is no arguing about that. The smartphone has 8 curves in total on its body with better-looking as well as easier to hold design.

The Huawei Porsche Design Mate RS is quite close to Mate 10 series in design an upgraded version of the P20 Pro in terms of specs and features. The Mate RS is dubbed as the company’s best smartphone with many “the firsts” in it. The smartphone brings a 6-inch AMOLED QHD full-screen 2880 x 1440 pixels display with 18:9 aspect ratio having small bezels but no notch. The top of the panel houses the earpiece, sensors and front camera while the bottom has the Porsche Design branding.

Huawei has used the Kirin 970 chipset to power up the device that is paired with 6GB of RAM and 256GB/512GB internal storage. The smartphone runs on Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box with EMUI 8.1 on top. More interestingly, the Mate RS becomes the first one that is equipped with triple fingerprint sensors located on the back, on the front and the in-display option like we’ve seen in the Vivo X20 Plus UD.

The Mate RS packs the same rear triple camera setup that is embedded on the P20 Pro with the highest pixel count in the smartphone industry comprising of a 40MP RGB sensor, a 20MP monochrome sensor and an 8MP telephoto lens. All the advance features of PDAF, CAF, laser, depth auto focus, 5x hybrid zoom, 960fps video and AI features are also there to make your image more bright, more clear and more vivid. However, the camera setup is aligned vertically in the centre top of the phone, unlike P20 family having on the left corner.

Another 24MP f/2.0 fixed focus camera is positioned on the front for capturing selfies and making video calls. Moreover, the selfie shooter may also be used for the Face Unlock feature that is considered to be as less reliable than the fingerprint sensor or Face ID introduced by iPhone X.

The Porsche Design Huawei Mate RS has an IP67 rating and support for wireless charging for the massive 4,000 mAh battery unit. It doesn’t have an audio jack but it has stereo speakers. There is a USB-C port with Display Port 1.2, Bluetooth 4.2 with aptX HD and HWA Audio, dual band WiFi and dual SIM support.

Pricing and Availability

The Porsche Design Huawei Mate RS is built of metal and glass that comes in Black and Red color options to choose. As the phone has two variants in terms of internal storage, the price tag has also two slabs.

The 256GB model is priced at €1,695 (~$2,084, PKR 241,600) whereas the 512GB version may cost you €2,095 (~$2,576, PKR 298,700). Mate RS will go on sale from April 12 in China and will be made available in other important markets soon after that.
