Huawei, the largest Chinese smartphone manufacturer that stands at number three globally, is continuously growing its mid-range lineup. The Chinese brand has just added another member to its mid-range ‘Y’ family dubbed as Huawei Y9 (2018).

Huawei Y9 (2018) – Features

The newly arrived Y9 (2018) is considered to be the successor of Huawei Y7 Prime that was debuted in August last year. However, the new variant of Y9 seems quite similar to the recently released Mate 10 Lite in terms of specs sheet and features.

The main selling point of Huawei Y9 (2018) is considered to be the dual camera setup on both sides; like Mate 10 Lite. We have a combo of 13MP and 2MP lens for the rera-mounted main camera whereas another 16MP paired with 2MP lens on the front for making video calls and taking selfie shots. The smaller resolution cameras on both sides will be used for depth sensing for bokeh and portrait mode.

Another plus point for Y9 (2018) when compared to the Mate 10 Lite is the latest Android OS as the Y9 runs on EMUI 8.0-based Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box whereas the Mate 10 Lite still runs on Android 7.0 Nougat.

The Huawei Y9 (2018) brings a 5.93-inch FHD+ display with 2160 x 1080 pixels resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio. While going inside, we have an octa-core Kirin 659 processor clocked at 2.36GHz, 3GB RAM and 32GB along with an option to expand up to 256GB by using a dedicated microSD card slot.

The Y9 (2018) comes with dual means of security features that is more reliable rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and a lesser secure way of Face Unlock. The smartphone carries the same powerful battery backup of 4,000 mAh that was seen in the Y7 Prime.

Huawei Y9 (2018) – Pricing and Availability

Huawei has currently announced the Y9 (2018) for Thailand with three color options to choose from – Black, Blue and Gold. However, the smartphone is expected to make its debut in other emerging markets like Pakistan and India by the end of this month.

As far as pricing is concerned, Huawei has yet not said any official word so far but we anticipate that the Y9 (2018) being similar to the Mate 10 Lite will carry the same price tag of around PKR 27,000 (~$250).
