Following the approval of Test status by the International Cricket Council (ICC), Ireland will play their debut Test Match in the history of cricket against Pakistan. The match will be played on 11th of May 2018 at Malahide; this is what Cricket Ireland has officially confirmed.
Warren Deutrom, CEO Cricket Ireland, was delighted to announce Malahide as the venue for the first test match. He said:
We are delighted that Malahide has agreed to host this historic game against Pakistan. Even in its short history of hosting our matches, the club has already given us some wonderful memories and we trust that 11 May and its ensuing days will provide many more.
Pakistan will have to work hard to face a strengthened Ireland side, as the national team could not deliver their best against Sri Lanka in the recent home series of the longest format of the game. The hosts, however, have been in flying form and will pose a huge threat for Sarfraz and his companions.
Pakistan Cricket History
Pakistan played its debut Test match in 1952 and has become one of the most successful teams in modern cricket. The team managed to reach the semi-finals of the 1979,1983, 1987 and 2011 World Cups, and finals in 1992 and 1999. However, the only World Cup title was secured in 1992 when they defeated England in the finals under the captaincy of Imran Khan.
Pakistan is one of the most successful T20 sides but faced a big failure in T20 2016 having won the T20 World Cup in 2009 and been runner-up in 2007. And after that they have defeated India by big margin of 180 in the Final of Champions Trophy 2017 at Oval. Pakistan has also been ranked as the Number 1 Test Team twice (summers of 1988 & 2016) and Number 1 across all formats (Test, ODI and T20) at various points.
