We’ve seen too many rumors circulating in tech blogs in recent days suggesting launch of an upgraded version of Nokia 6 in early 2018. HMD Global just put a full stop to those and announced the second generation of midrange device Nokia 6 that brings some improved design upgrades. The first smartphone of 2018 from the Finnish tech giant is expected to hit markets in coming weeks.
The Nokia 6 (2018) is reportedly a reduced bezel smartphone having fingerprint scanner on the back beneath the camera contrasting the existing model having same security feature embedded in the home button. Moreover, the new model pulls out the ordinary home button in favour of more attractive and bezel less look.
The Nokia 6 (2018) is a dual SIM supported device that runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box. However, HMD Global has promised to upgrade new model to Android Oreo in coming days. The new smartphone brings a 5.5-inch IPSLCD screen with a FullHD (1080 x 1920 pixels) resolution and a 16:9 aspect ratio. It has metal unibody build that is made of 6000 series aluminum.
The smartphone is powered by a 2.2GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 for faster processing. The new Nokia 6 will reportedly come in two storage options; 32GB and 64GB. However, both variants will sport 4GB of RAM. Nokia 6 (2018) sports a microSD card to expand the built-in memory.
Another significant upgrade has been introduced in audio features of the new device through OZO Audio. It’s an advance spatial audio technology with 3D capture and playback capabilities. OZO Audio is a core ingredient that makes the user feel virtual reality audio and emphasize on the right sounds while reducing the ambient sounds or background noise.
On the camera front, Nokia 6 (2018) brings the same camera sensors as they were found on the predecessor model. There comes a 16MP sensor at the rear along with the dual-LED flash whereas an 8MP 84-degree wide-angle selfie snapper is fitted on the front panel. The Bothie mode that is available on the Nokia 8 and Nokia 7 is also available on the new Nokia 6.
The connectivity features available on the new model include USB-C, 3.5mm audio jack, Bluetooth 5.0, Cat. 4 LTE modem and Wi-Fi. The original Nokia 6 supports NFC but the official listing of the Nokia 6 (2018) does not mention whether it carries support for NFC or not.
The battery hasn’t changed either; a non-removeable 3,000mAh unit powers the 2018 model of Nokia 6. It should theoretically charge faster now thanks to the USB-C connector. The official stats say it charges up to 50% in 30 mins.
Pricing and Availability
HMD Global has offered the new Nokia 6 (2018) for pre-orders in China in two colour options – Black and Silver. The smartphone will be shipped from January 10th onwards.
It is also revealed that the base model of new Nokia 6 is priced at CNY 1,499 (~$231 or PKR 25,500) while the 64GB variant comes with price tag of CNY 1,699 (~$260 or PKR 29,000).
