It’s over 12 years from now when Nokia 8110 made its debut with its unique curved sliding style that embraced fandom in 1999’s ‘The Matrix’ in which hero Neo (Keanu Reeves) used it.
HMD Global has recently announced a new version of the same iconic phone with 4G connectivity along with 4 other smartphones at the MWC 2018. The revival of iconic device dubbed as Nokia 8110 4G is a deliberate attempt to have strong hold in feature phones market like the firm revived the Nokia 3310 last year.
An HMD spokesperson said:
The Nokia 8110 comes with the craftsmanship you expect from a Nokia phone, delivering durability and reliability as standard. With a familiar and easy to use interface, it features intuitive tactile mechanics, with slide to answer and end calls, as well as an addictive helicopter style spin on its axis.
Nokia 8110 4G
The banana-shaped feature phone is powered by a Dual Core Snapdragon 205 processor paired with 512MB RAM and 4GB of internal storage that can be expanded by up to 64GB with a micro SD card.
The phone is also equipped with a 2MP lens at the back with an LED flash to shoot in darker conditions. The dual Nano SIM sported device may connect you with high speed internet. A handy 1,500 mAh battery unit is there to keep the lights on for day long.
The phone runs the ancient and dead version of Firefox OS called KaiOS or as HMD names it “Smart Feature OS”does support important apps like Google Maps and google Assistant in some form. It is also said that users may use Facebook in a later stage.
This device does not have Android and it does not have a touchscreen display. But it still supports the 4G connectivity to navigate the internet with blazing speeds by using its 3×4 old school keyboard.
Summing up, the biggest feature of the Nokia 8110 4G is its ability to connect 4G internet but that is pretty pointless considering the low number of features it provides and the number of apps the OS supports. Still, HMD Global is betting big on the device as the firm did with the revamped Nokia 3310.
Nokia 8110 4G – Pricing and Availability
Although HMD Global confirmed at the MWC 2018 that the Nokia 8110 4G would be launched in the European market starting from May 2018 with a price tag of €89 but there are unconfirmed reports claiming its availability in the US market as well for $97.
We expect the feature phone making its way to the emerging markets like Pakistan and India by the end of second quarter this year. Stay tuned to know more.
