HMD Global has added another notched-display smartphone in their lineup with brand name of Nokia X5. This becomes the second Nokia device with notch on top following the Nokia X6 that became official in May this year.

Nokia X5 – Features

The Nokia X5 features a double-sided 2D glass with a polycarbonate frame in between. It brings a 5.86-inch display on the front with 19:9 aspect ratio and HD+ resolution of 1520 x 720 pixels offering 84% of screen-to-body ratio. HMD Global has also added an eye protection mode that helps in reducing eye strain by filtering out the blue light emitted by the screen.

Nokia X5 is powered by a MediaTek Helio P60 SoC that promises high performance by consuming low power. The SoC is well-known to improve the gaming performance by 70% while saving power. The device offers two options of memory combos that is 3GB+32GB and 4GB+64GB. However, a dedicated microSD card slot is also there that offers an option to further expand the storage.

The camera department of Nokia X5 consists of a dual camera setup on the rear comprising of 13MP f/2.0 primary lens and a 5MP secondary one supported by a dual-tone LED flash. The camera offers a number of enhanced features including HDR mode, PDAF, high-sensitivity depth-of-field lens and AI-driven professional portrait photography mode.


Nokia X5 is also packed with a selfie camera of 8MP with f/2.0 aperture that offers features like AI beauty, AI stickers, AI background blurring effect and dual-view shooting mode that allow users to use the front and rear cameras at the same time.

The front camera can be also used to enhance security features of the device through face unlock options along with a fingerprint reader fitted on the rear panel of the smartphone.

Nokia X5 is a dual SIM device by default that is loaded with pure edition of Android 8.1 Oreo receiving monthly security updates with a promise to be upgraded to Android 9.0 in future. Other features of the phone include USB-C, 3.5mm audio jack, dual-SIM support, Cat.4 LTE modem, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS and GLONASS. The handset includes a 3,060mAh battery.


Nokia X5 – Pricing and Availability

As of now, Nokia X5 is offered for sale in China in three color options to choose from Night Black, Baltic Sea Blue and Glacier White with price tag of CNY 999 (~$147, PKR 19,000) for the base model while the higher variant is priced at CNY 1,399 (~$206, PKR 26,700).

Although, HMD Global is yet to confirm the availability of Nokia X5 outside of China but rumors are there that Nokia X5 may hit the international markets as Nokia 5.1 Plus in coming months; like we’ve recently seen Nokia 6.1 Plus as international variant of Nokia X6.
