OnePlus, the Chinese smartphone maker with a reputation as Flagship Killer, has finally launched its next flagship OnePlus 6 at an event in London that offers high-end specs and sleek design at almost half the price of a flagship. Notably, the OnePlus 6 is the company’s first flagship phone with glass on the front and back.
Alongside offering affordable smartphones, OnePlus also has a reputation for offering insanely fast handsets, hence OnePlus 6 being the successor of OnePlus 5, keeps this reputation too and offers latest Snapdragon 845 chipsets.
OnePlus 6 – Features
OnePlus 6 features a 6.3-inch AMOLED display with screen resolution of 2280 x 1080 pixels and 19:9 aspect ratio following the same trend of flagship smartphones of other companies keeping the device bezelless with notch. Design-wise, the biggest quirk of the phone is the notch at the top of the display. The phone offers the headphone jack as usual, unlike the majority of the current premium smartphones, and is also water resistant to some extent.
The Chinese manufacturer embeds a Snapdragon 845 chipset under the hood to power up the OnePlus 6 ensuring a 30% improvement in power delivery over its predecessor. To make things work even better, the device has two variants; one bundled with 6GB RAM and 64GB of storage while the other offers 8GB RAM with 128GB or 256GB of internal storage. Connectivity options include Gigabit LTE, USB-C, Wi-Fi ac, NFC and also a headphone jack, which is a big plus.
As far as camera setup of the device is concerned, OnePlus 6 offers its new dual camera setup placed vertically on the rear with better low-light shots and portrait mode with optical image stabilization (OIS). Below the camera is a rear oval-shaped fingerprint scanner as well.
The main shooter is a 16 MP primary Sony IMX519 sensor with f/1.7 aperture paired with a 20 MP Sony IMX376K sensor, with support for OIS this time. Video output is also considerably improved, with 4K at 60 fps, and 720p at 480 fps slo-mo supported. While the front camera also comes with a 16 MP Sony f/2.0 lens, with an AI portrait mode and a 0.4s facial unlock feature.
As for the software, the smartphone is running the company’s own OxygenOS that is based on Android 8.1 Oreo operating system out of the box. However, the OnePlus is already a part of Android P Beta program and thus, users can also try out the upcoming Android P. Additionally, the phone boasts a dual-SIM (nano) support and a 3300 mAh battery with support for company’s fast charging technology — Dash Charge 2.0.
