OPPO, the camera brand from China, has officially added another camera focused smartphone to their line-up – the OPPO F5. The brand got popular among young generation primarily due to innovative camera features brought in the OPPO F3 and OPPO F3 Plus. The new mid-ranger OPPO F5 brings all the bases with a large display, a moderately-fast processor, and decent cameras.
The OPPO F5 is a dual SIM device by default that runs on Android 7.1 Nougat with Oppo’s Color OS 3.2 on top. The device comes with a large 6-inch display having 18:9 (or 2:1) aspect ratio and a resolution of 1080 x 2160 pixels. The design is also unibody metal like the F3 but it lacks the dual selfie cameras that its predecessors have.
The F5 brings a 2.3 GHz octa-core MediaTek Helio P23 processor under the hood. On the memory front, we have two RAM/ROM combinations of 4GB/32GB and 6GB/64GB.
The device comes with a 20MP front camera with f/2.0 aperture and 1/2.8″ sensor size along with the AI tech that allows facial unlocking as well as background blur (despite having a single lens) and other cool editing styles. Surprisingly, OPPO has skipped an LED flash on the front. On the back, there is a 16 MP sensor with f/1.8 aperture and an LED flash.
Both the cameras are designed to capture excellent images in any light conditions. The sensors are equipped with AI beauty which highlights features like eyes, nose, jawline or cheekbones in selfies and brightens your eyes. OPPO says:
With more than 200 positioning spots, the F5 accentuates your facial landmarks and contours to enhance the symmetry between features like your eyes, nose, cheekbones and jawline to create the perfectly refined and natural selfie. Its beauty-iris tool ensures that your eyes will shine brighter in any photo.
OPPO has introduced a moderate 3,200 mAh non-removable battery. However, we don’t have any official announcement of fast charging support at the moment.
Pricing and Availability
As announced, OPPO has brought F5 in the Philippines in the first phase with a price tag of 15,990 Philippine Pesos (~PKR 32,550). The device is due to arrive in India on November 2nd and Pakistan later next month.
The price tag puts the F5 in direct competition with other rivals in the market. However, the impressive cameras backed with AI, and the 2:1 display are something of a rarity even today and that gives the F5 an edge.
