OPPO – the Chinese selfie experts, has announced to start its sub-brand called OPPO Realme that will focus on ‘unique’ looking designs at affordable cost. The new brand will mainly ensure its presence through online retailers with OPPO Realme 1 as the first device of new lineup by camera experts.
OPPO Realme 1
As the pilot project, OPPO Realme has decided to unveil its first device Realme 1 in India – one of the most attractive markets in the world for budget category smartphones. OPPO India promises to offer sturdy and good-looking devices competing with ‘ugly’ looking smartphones in the same price segment.
It seems that OPPO has decided to follow its country mate Huawei that announced its sub-brand Honor with the same marketing stunt to sell its devices through online retailers and company’s own websites. Honor has been a popular name in the budget category especially in the emerging Asian markets including Pakistan and India.
If we closely look at the Realme 1, it seems to be a ‘redesigned’ copy of Xiaomi’s Redmi 5A (the phone on the left in the picture below) as OPPO considers its design as ‘generic’ and announces to boast its own ‘unique’ style. So the marketing bout has been kicked off as both Xiaomi and OPPO are quite popular in both Pakistani and Indian markets’ budget segment.
The company claims that the OPPO Realme 1 has been tested on a vigorous durability test series including ‘10,000 drop tests, 100,000 button tests, and 10,000 USB tests’. But the insiders claim that the upcoming device would be a rebranded OPPO A3 on its specs sheet that was announced a month earlier. It is expected to see a Mediatek Helio P60 chipset, 4GB RAM, a bezelless notched display and of course a confirmed ‘Diamond’ rear design.
Pricing and Availability
As far as pricing is concerned, OPPO has not officially announced any words as yet. However, it has been made clear that the OPPO Realme 1 will certainly enter Indian market exclusively through Amazon India from May 15th as the device has already been listed on the website.
We expect to see OPPO Realme in other markets including Pakistan in coming weeks. So stay tuned…
