Xiaomi India teased a new smartphone series earlier this month with brand name of POCOPHONE to be launched in India very soon. It seems that we are not too far from the first device as POCO India has shared a poster on their official twitter handle that reveals the POCO F1 will be unveiled at a launch event to be held in New Delhi, India on August 22nd. However, time of the event has yet not been announced.

POCO F1 – Features

The POCO F1 is said to be a dual SIM supported handset that runs Android 8.1 Oreo operating system out-of-the-box with Xiaomi’s custom MIUI 9.0 on top. Connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n/ac (2.4GHz + 5GHz), Bluetooth 5, GPS + GLONASS and USB Type-C. The company has also decided to retain the 3.5mm headphone jack. On the other hand, rumors reveal that the upcoming POCO F1 will feature a 5.99-inch Full HD+ display with a 19:9 aspect ratio and a notch on top.

Xiaomi has officially announced the chipset that is meant to power up the POCO F1; it is the Qualcomm‘s Snapdragon 845 – the company’s flagship chipset which powers majority of the flagship phones launched this year. The chipset is also said to come with liquid cooling to give a boost to the phone’s performance. The phone will pack a memory combo of 6GB RAM and 64GB of expandable internal storage. However, the phone is expected to come in other memory configurations too.

On the camera front, the POCO F1 is said to feature a vertically arranged dual-camera setup on the back consisting of a 12MP primary sensor and a 5MP secondary one. It has a 20MP front-facing camera with IR face unlock features for taking selfies and video calling. There’s also a fingerprint sensor on the back panel for added security. The smartphone will be fuelled by a 4,000mAh battery with support for Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging.

POCO F1 – Pricing and Availability

Not to mention here that the new smartphone series will be named as POCO in India whereas it will be named as POCOPHONE in the global market. Although, we don’t have much to share through official means but a number of reports suggest that the POCO F1 will be a flagship device that may be priced less than Xiaomi’s current flagships (Mi MIX 2s, Mi 8 and Mi 8 Explorer Edition).

Now, ahead of the launch event, a new teaser from Flipkart with hashtag #AsFastAsYou suggests that the upcoming POCO F1 could be a Flipkart-exclusive smartphone for Indian market. It is also said that once the device is made official in India, the POCOPHONE should make its way to other parts of the world including Europe but there is no official announcement on the release date for any other region at the moment.
