On the eve of the 25th anniversary of Samsung in the Chinese market and the 10th one of the W series, Samsung unveiled the Samsung W2018 – a high-end flip phone with Android, two touchscreens, Bixby and a hefty price tag.
The Samsung W2018 is a flagship clamshell phone that boasts a premium design along with dual displays. The South Korean company has been launching W series smartphones for raising charity funds for the past ten years and the newly unveiled Samsung W2018 has arrived as a 10th anniversary edition phone. The launch event was held in Xiamen, China.
Samsung brings a perfect match of metal and glass combination to flourish the premium look of W2018 Flip Phone. The back panel of the phone features Gorilla Glass and a zinc alloy biaxial hinge. The front panel features a D-pad and a numeric keypad for navigation.
The W2018 is the first flip phone with Bixby on board, and Samsung proudly announced that the AI assistant now supports Chinese language. The smartphone measures 132.2 x 63.2 x 15.9 mm when folded. However it weight scales to 247 grams; a bit more as compared to bar phones of today.
The Samsung W2018 has a pair of 4.2″ AMOLED displays of Full HD resolution; the front one protected by Gorilla Glass 5. The Snapdragon 835 chipset powers the smartphone along with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage that can be expanded up to 256GB by using the microSD card slot.
There is one camera on the back – a 12 MP sensor with a f/1.5 aperture which is most likely the same as the one in the Galaxy S8. It is coupled with Optical Image Stabilization feature. The camera adjusts aperture as per the light condition; it will switch to f/2.4 aperture when there is sufficient light and returns to f/1.5 aperture in darker conditions. The selfie lovers may find a front-facing camera of 5-megaxpixel with f/1.9 lens.
