Android 8.0 Oreo was unveiled a couple of months ago and was made available for Pixel and Nexus devices in the first phase. These devices are now ready to get the first major update to Oreo, Android 8.1, enabling Pixel Visual Core for better processing. Other manufacturers are still trying their best to roll out the latest update to their smartphones.
Samsung Announces Oreo Update
If you are a Samsung fan, you’ll be disappointed to hear that you’ll have to wait a couple of months more to upgrade your Samsung device to Android Oreo. The South Korean tech giant has just confirmed that their customers would get the latest OS by the start of next year.
Samsung Turkey published a post on their official portal stating that the Oreo update will arrive for Samsung phones in the beginning of next year. However, no time frame has been shared by the company so far; it just said that Samsung devices will get the Oreo update as soon as the New Year starts.
For us, it is a strange move by Samsung by delaying the Oreo update as they had reportedly started working on the Oreo update for the Galaxy S8 as soon as the latest OS was unveiled. Moreover, the company did not make it clear that which device will get the update first. Even though, we anticipate that the Galaxy Note 8, S8 and S8 Plus would be the first ones in the queue.
Track Record of Samsung
Samsung’s speed in rolling out software updates isn’t good. If you remember, Samsung upgraded their devices to Nougat in the beginning of the year 2017 so we should not surprise to see Oreo update at the beginning of the year 2018!
On the other hand, to keep Android 7.0 update smooth, Samsung introduced the beta program to test it on Samsung S7 and S7 Edge in November last year. So maybe we’ll see Android 8 beta version for Samsung Galaxy Note 8, S8 and S8 Plus next month.
