We’ve seen ‘premium mid-range’ devices introduced by Chinese manufacturers like Huawei and Xiaomi getting popular among the masses in the couple of years. The same trend has caused big names like Samsung to enter the arena and compete its rivals. As a result, the South Korean tech giant has launched the new Galaxy A8 Star with premium features at affordable cost.

Galaxy A8 Star – Features

The Galaxy A8 Star offers a premium build quality that is hardly seen on a mid-range device. For instance, a metal frame surrounds the device with curved glass on both front and rear sides. We have a 6.3-inch Super AMOLED panel on the front with FHD+ resolution of 2220 x 1080 and an aspect ratio of 18.5:9.

However, the rear design offers a bit change in approach for Samsung devices as the dual cameras are arranged vertically on the top left corner of the device along with an LED flash. Moreover, a fingerprints scanner is affixed in the centre back of the phone for added security.

Samsung has powered the Galaxy A8 Star with Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 octa-core processor under the hood paired with a memory combo of 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage. If you do find yourself running out of the internal storage, there’s also an option for a microSD card which will let you expand the storage up to 400GB.

The photography department of Galaxy A8 Star is taken up by a vertically arranged dual camera setup on the rear comprising of a 16MP primary sensor and a 24MP secondary one. Both the cameras come with f/1.7 apertures that should help with low light performance. However, there’s no optical image stabilization (OIS) available but they do get 4K video recording. On the other hand, the front facing camera is a 24MP unit with f/2.0 aperture for wide angle selfies.

The Galaxy A8 Star is fuelled by a 3,700 mAh battery unit that is claimed to last for at least a day’s usage on a single charge; thanks to the mid-range processor consuming low energy.

Galaxy A8 Star – Pricing and Availability

Samsung Galaxy A8 Star has been offered for sale in black and white color in Malaysia with a price tag of RM 1,799 (~$437, PKR 53,800). The device is expected to enter other markets including Pakistan very soon. Stay tuned for more updates.
