Samsung has become the pioneer in bringing the first “Foldable Phone” to the market. We are talking about the Samsung Galaxy Fold – one of the most rumored device for over a year. Let us go through its main features.

Galaxy Fold – Design Features

Samsung Fold neither seems to be a phone nor a tablet when it comes to its foldable design. When closed, there’s a tiny 4.6-inch Super AMOLED display on the front having HD+ resolution at 12:9 aspect ratio. Moreover, the front face brings a camera and an earpiece so it becomes a regular phone if you need to call someone. On the back, there’s a triple camera setup, borrowed straight from the S10 and S10 Plus, arranged in a vertical orientation.

When opened, the Galaxy Fold offers a large 7.3-inch Infinity Flex display in the middle having QXGA+ resolution of 1536 x 2152 pixels at a 4.2:3 aspect ratio. There are two cameras on the bigger display, located in the top right corner. The South Korean tech giant has introduced a unique hinge on the back with interlocking gears that smooths out the opening and closing of the device.

The Galaxy Fold is a dual SIM supported device that runs a modified version of Android 9.0 Pie under the hood that seamlessly switches from the front display to the main display when you unfold the phone; thanks to Google-Samsung collaboration. The device gets powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset that is paired with a memory combo of 12GB RAM and 512GB native storage with no option of further expansion.

The apps automatically switch to a multi-tasking mode, as shown above, when you open the phone. Even if you have a single app open, the extra screen real estate can definitely help. Currently, Microsoft Office, WhatsApp, and YouTube Premium will support the multitask view with support for more apps to be added in the future.

Galaxy Fold has a unique design that brings at least one camera pointing at you wherever you look at it from. In total, we have six cameras embedded into the device at varying locations. There’s a single 10MP camera on the smaller display, dual 10+8 MP cameras on the larger display and triple camera setup on the back that includes a 12MP main camera with variable aperture, a 12MP telephoto sensor and a 16MP wide-angle shooter.

Lastly, we’ll talk about the battery, which is rather small considering the large screen on this phone. The Galaxy Fold is powered by two battery units, which combine to offer 4,380 mAh capacity with 18W fast charging support.

Galaxy Fold – Pricing and Availability

Samsung has priced the Galaxy Fold at $1,980 (~PKR 276,000) in the US starting first sale from April 26th. The European market would welcome the Galaxy Fold a bit later on May 3rd, priced at €2,000. Interestingly, the device will be made available in LTE and 5G versions for both the markets.
