Samsung is gearing up for the next year’s flagship device Galaxy S9 but on the side-lines we do see something happening there with budget devices. The “J” series is an ultra-low budget series, in fact, from the world’s biggest smartphone manufacturer especially tailored for those who don’t want to spend a lot of money in the name of a ‘smartphone’.
Some specifications getting surfaced on GFXBench listing have brought the upcoming Galaxy J3 out of the curtains. Just days earlier, we have seen the latest version of one of the “A” series smartphone getting surfaced – the Galaxy A5 that will be marketed in early 2018.
Galaxy J3 2018
The Galaxy J3 2018 is expected to come with the same 5.0-inch display having 720p resolution what we saw the last year’s J3. However, a little improvement will be seen in the processor field as the new version will incorporate a Quad Core Cortex-A53 processor clocked at 1.5 GHz while the previous one had 1.4 GHz clock rate. The GPU is also expected to be improved from the previous one.
The smartphone will be shipped with Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box. However a plus comes here as Samsung will roll out an Android Oreo update for Galaxy J3 2018 with due course of time.
On the memory front, there is no improvement at all; the same 2 GB RAM and 16 GB internal storage combination comes with the new model. However, you’ll not get out of space as there will be a dedicated card slot to expand phone’s memory.
As far as camera features are concerned, we are surprised to see that the 2018 model of J3 will get a slight reduction in primary camera lens. There is an 8 MP lens at the back while the same lens was sized to 13 MP for the last year’s model. Moreover, the camera does not support HDR as well. However, the front camera is the same; 5MP unit.
Pricing and Availability
Samsung will bring J3 2018 to shelves in first quarter of next year. With no considerable improvement, rather a reduction in main camera lens, we anticipate to see lower price tag for the new model.
