Samsung, the global leader in Android smartphone manufacturers, announces the ruggedized version of its flagship devices every year. This time it is the Samsung Galaxy S7 Active. As usual, the specifications for this water and dust-resistant handset closely match those of its mainstream line mate, Samsung Galaxy S7.
Strength and Durability
We can easily say, as we have a look on specs chart, that the main feature of Samsung Galaxy S7 Active is its ‘durability’. It has equipped with a display that is shatter-proof and protected by latest Gorilla Glass 4.
The smartphone can survive even if it is dropped from a 5 feet height. Moreover, it is water and dust resistant too. It is the rubber and metal surrounding its main body thus making it durable, for what we are in doubt for Galaxy S7.
Display and Memory
Samsung Galaxy S7 Active has a 5.1″ display with Super AMOLED and 1440 x 2560 pixels (QHD) resolution. Under the hood, we find a Snapdragon 820 system-on-chip from Qualcomm.
The smartphone comes with the built-in storage of 32 GB along with 4 GB of RAM. You can even have microSD card slot on the Samsung Galaxy S7 Active, supporting up to 256 GB. The new Active from Samsung will run Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
Camera and Scanner
Samsung Galaxy S7 Active comes with a 12 megapixel main shooter at the back along with LED flash. While you can even enjoy dual pixel sensor that improves low-light image capture. On the front side, we see a 5 megapixel selfie shooter. The smartphone incorporates a fingerprint scanner on the front as well.
Samsung has provided a dedicated Action Key above the volume rocker. You can assign Action Key to any of your three favourite apps and configure your smartphone to run these apps through long press, double tap and single tap gestures.
Finally we see a large 4,000 mAh non-removable battery, the largest ever in Samsung’s line-up of flagship smartphones.
Connectivity and Sensors
The Samsung Galaxy S7 Active is a single SIM (GSM) smartphone that accepts a Micro-SIM. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, NFC, FM, 4G. Sensors on the phone include Proximity sensor, Ambient light sensor, Accelerometer, and Gyroscope.
Price and Availability
The phone is currently an exclusive for AT&T in US but could be rolled out worldwide soon.
Pricing is set at $795 (approx. Rs. 82,000), taking into account the cumulative payments from the two-year contract, quite a premium over a regular S7.
