Samsung, the South Korean tech giant, is all set to unveil the most-rumored Galaxy S9 at MWC 2018 on February 25th in Barcelona, Spain. The predictions are there on tech blogs whether we would see Galaxy S10 as its predecessor next year or something else might emerge by then. The rumores are based on the reports suggesting that Samsung may ditch the Galaxy S naming scheme in 2019. Will it be the Galaxy X replacing S? This is the million dollar question at the moment.

As we know that the upcoming Galaxy S9 and its Plus variant are likely to rival Apple’s iPhone X with their Face Unlock and other premium features but the Galaxy X is expected to bring rivalry to the next level. According to reports, naming the Galaxy line-up with X doesn’t mean copying the iPhone but an attempt to shorten the names of flagship devices making them more popular. If Samsung would keep going like Galaxy S11, S12, and so on, it might be confusing for customers.

Galaxy X with Foldable Display

It is interesting to note that the same name, Galaxy X is in headlines for the upcoming foldable device by Samsung. We’ve seen the South Korean manufacturer filing multiple patents for the foldable smartphone. That means we might see the foldable display working in our hands next year.

In terms of design features, the Galaxy X is rumored to take the current bezel-less trend to the next level; attaining an impressive 93% screen-to-body ratio. Although Vivo X20 Plus UD has done the job but Galaxy X is also expected to bring an AMOLED panel with the in-display fingerprint sensor.

It is also reported that the Galaxy X may bring an ‘L’ shape battery to further increase the overall battery life. Another significant upgrade will be support for 5G networks, which are expected to be available to consumers sometime next year. Other important features will include a big focus on 3D features such as face scanning, and advanced AI.

Although, it is quite early to predict the final shape and design of a smartphone that is due to surface in a year time from now but it is interesting to list down all the rumors and reports to sketch-up the device by then. As of today, the focus of most leaks and rumors is on the Samsung Galaxy S9 that is due to unveil in less than three weeks.
