If you thinks the time has gone for the olden things in today’s advanced world, you must reconsider your statement as Samsung is there to prove you wrong. The South Korean tech giant has launched the ‘flip phone’ – a memory of the past. It is the Samsung Leader 8 released in China having much better specs sheet than majority of smartphones out there.

Samsung has used aviation-grade aluminium for the Leader 8 making it a very durable smartphone rather flip phone. Opening up the phone, you’ll find a control pad surrounded by buttons. You can also configure one of these buttons to perform a pre-defined task such as opening an application or taking a picture.

As the Leader 8 is a flip phone so it comes with two screens; both having the same 4.2-inch full HD Super AMOLED displays. It’s “only” 1080p but given the screen size, the display is going to be super sharp.

One of the displays is outside of the phone and the other one is inside when you flip it open. The display on the outside will let you quickly check notifications and other information like the date, time and call reminders.

Samsung Leader 8 Flip Phone

When we peep inside, we find a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor along with 4 GB RAM with Samsung Leader 8. The internal storage has also been kept reasonably enough that is 64 GB and if you still somehow feel that this is not enough, you can expand it via a microSD card up to 256 GB.

On the camera front, the Leader 8 is equipped with a 12 MP sensor having f/1.7 aperture and an LED flash on the rear and a 5MP on the front to take some decent selfies.

Keeping everything powered is a 2,300mAh battery that also supports wireless charging. For smartphones a battery of that size may not be ideal but for a small flip phone such as the Leader 8, it should be more than enough to last a day or two.

Price and Availability

The Samsung Leader 8 will be exclusive to China Mobile in one colour option — black. However, its exact release date and price haven’t been announced yet. Although unconfirmed, but the device likely won’t make it to the Western Markets.

If it does get released outside of China somewhere down the line, it will probably only make its way to South Korea and maybe even a few other Asian markets.
