Sony, a famous brand from Japan, has added a pair of midrange devices to its R family of smartphones – the Xperia R1 and Xperia R1 Plus. The company has especially tailored the R series producing value-based phones in emerging markets. The brand new duo of Sony is likely to hit Indian market shortly featuring mid-range specs and a familiar Sony design while keeping the price low.
Both the new phones are designed on the same theme what we have already seen from Sony, featuring the same rectangular and blocky design that the series is known for. The phones come with entirely similar specifications, expect that the Plus variant comes with twice the storage and 1 GB extra RAM.
Sony has introduced a 5.2-inch TFT LCD panel with HD 720p resolution. Under the hood, we have the mid-range Snapdragon 430 processor; seen on a number of mid-rangers over the past few years. The R1 carries a combo of 2 GB/16 GB of storage while the Plus brings that of 3 GB/32 GB on memory front.
On the camera front the R1 siblings come with the single 13 MP sensor with LED Flash on the back with predictive auto focus system; more accurate when shooting mobile objects. Upfront we have an 8 MP sensor with the same predictive autofocus tech.
For connectivity, you get USB-C to begin with. There are two SIM card slots, FM Radio and all the essentials you’d expect. The fingerprint scanner is notably missing. The battery capacity is set at 2620 mAh.
Pricing and Availability
Sony has unveiled both the phones in India with no words for the international exposure, though we have some reports claiming Sony to re-enter Pakistan with most probably the mid-range devices.
However, the Indian customers can grab the one from Amazon and Flipkart starting from November 10 in either Black or Silver colour. The Xperia R1 will be priced at INR 13,990 ($215) and the Xperia R1 Plus at INR 15,990 ($245).
