Following the trend of disbursing fresh currency notes on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has collaborated with Pakistan Banks Association (PBA) to set up an SMS-based service to facilitate general public in getting fresh currency notes.

Abid Qamar, the central bank’s spokesman confirmed that the currency notes will be issued from 1st June to 14th June in 1,535 commercial bank branches and SBP offices located in 132 cities across Pakistan. He further said that a separate press release will be issued in coming days for disclosing more details to the public on this service.

How to Get Fresh Currency Notes

A person intending to get new currency notes will have to send an SMS to 8877 (charges Rs. 1.5+tax) mentioning his/her CNIC number and branch code of selected bank. The system will respond with sending redemption code and authorised bank branch address.

The process can be read and better understood in the latest promo issued by the SBP:

It is further said that each CNIC number and mobile phone number can only be used once to send an SMS to 8877. No redemption code will be issued to senders if they send same CNIC/SNIC number from different mobile numbers or addresses.

Customers will have to approach the concerned e-branch on the date mentioned in the SMS along with the redemption code received from 8877 and original & photocopy of CNIC/SNIC to collect fresh currency notes of the following value:

  • 3 packets of Rs. 10 Currency Notes
  • 1 packet of Rs. 50 Currency Notes
  • 1 packet of Rs. 100 Currency Notes

Be noted that as for now, SBP has not publicised the list of authorised bank branches disbursing fresh currency notes this year. However, a help desk has been established at (021)-111-008-877 to entertain queries/complaints of the general public.

SBP has published the list of authorised bank branches on May 30, 2018. CLICK HERE to find out the one near to you.
