Sony is known as one of those brands who try to release major OS updates for their premium devices fairly quickly. As Google has officially released Android 9 Pie earlier this month, the Japanese brand has released a list of phones to be upgraded to the latest Android OS. Earlier, we’ve come across the same kind of announcement made by HMD Global to upgrade entire range of Nokia phones to the Android 9 Pie.
Sony Devices to Get Android 9 Pie Update
According to Sony’s official blog, six of Sony Xperia devices would get the Android 9.0 Pie update from September to November this year. Whereas, the entire lineup of Xperia XA2 range would experience the rollout of Android 9 Pie in early months of next year.
The devices in question include all the last two generations of flagship devices released by the Japanese manufacturer. It makes sense that the company decided updating its flagship before all the other handsets. Here is the list of Sony Xperia premium devices likely to be upgraded later this year:
- Sony Xperia XZ1
- Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact
- Sony Xperia XZ Premium
- Sony Xperia XZ2
- Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact
- Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium
However, the last range of mid-range Sony devices are announced to get an Android 9 Pie update earlier next year:
- Sony Xperia XA2
- Sony Xperia XA2 Ultra
- Sony Xperia XA2 Plus
About Android 9 Pie
Not to mention that the Android 9.0 Pie is meant to bring several improvements compared with the previous versions; just like every major version of Android OS does. Among these improvements, there will surely be a longer battery life thanks to the new Adaptive Battery feature, as well as revamped graphics elements and features.
There will also be App Actions which will insert quick actions within the app launcher at certain times of the day basing on the user’s activities, improved notifications, Slices which will allow apps to insert themselves into the user’s searches, and more
