WhatsApp Video Call for Android Users

WhatsApp, the largest instant messaging app, is entering into Video Call arena step by step. Earlier they have rolled out their update for Windows mobile users and now is the turn of Android platform to get WhatsApp video call update; iPhone users still have to wait.

After the takeover by Facebook, WhatsApp is really bouncing with more and more features day by day. They have already introduced the end-to-end encryption for better security and the annotation feature for images and video editing. Now is the turn of video calling feature that will really boost its encounter with Skype and LINE in the IM market.

WhatsApp Video Call for Android Users

Like Windows mobile, the new feature has been rolled out for the lucky users who are using the WhatsApp beta version. If you want to be one of them, download the WhatsApp 2.16.318 beta from the link given at the end of the post.

You’ll be able to make video call either from Call Section of WhatsApp or from within a conversation with that specific user. A new dialogue would appear asking if you want to proceed with a voice call or video call.

If you select video call option, you’ll be connected on the other end through video means provided the receiver is also on the same beta version of WhatsApp. If not, you’ll be told that your contact needs to upgrade to the latest version of WhatsApp.

How to become Beta Tester

If you haven’t subscribed to the beta version of WhatsApp till now, simply launch Play Store on your Android smartphone. Search for WhatsApp download page, scroll down and find out a section titled Become a beta tester. Tap the ‘I’M IN’ button and wait for a while as WhatsApp registers you as a beta tester.

If you don’t see the update after a few minutes, exit Play Store and close the window from the multi-tasker. Re-launch Play Store, head over to the WhatsApp page and you will now see the Update button.

As an alternate you can also download WhatsApp 2.16.318 beta on your Android and proceed to install the beta version of WhatsApp.

Keep in mind this is not a stable version of the app as the new update is under trial phase. If tests become successful, we will see a stable release of WhatsApp featuring video calling in coming weeks.

So what are you waiting for? Go ahead and become the first among your friends to use WhatsApp video call feature on your Android smartphone.
