The smartphone brands introduce ‘Flagship Devices’ as their ultimate product with premium features whereas two of the brands – OnePlus and Xiaomi bring ‘Flagship Killers’ to counter them in the market. This is because both the brands are known for offering flagship like specs sheet at half the price.
For instance, Xiaomi Mi 6 offered even better specifications than the Galaxy S8 but saving half the price of S8. Likewise, the recent venture of OnePlus 5T stands at par with the iPhone X beating in the price factor though. It is Xiaomi once again that is gearing up to bring Mi 7 – another flagship killer in the first half of next year.
Mi 7 Expected Features
The leaks suggest the Mi 7 may bring a 6.01-inch bezelless display manufactured by Samsung with 18:9 aspect ratio. Not to mention that it is Xiaomi that introduced bezelless technology in its products like Mi Mix and Mi Mix 2 when it was a very rare phenomenon in the market. However, the display of Mi 7 will be a significant update over the Mi 6 which had a 5.15-inch display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080.
The Mi 7 will host the maiden entry of next-gen Snapdragon 845 chipset. Be noted that it is the chipset that will be surfaced in December by Qualcomm and will be an integral part of the major flagship devices of 2018 including the Note 9, Galaxy S9, Pixel 3 and OnePlus 6.
On the camera front, the Mi 7 is expected to bring a 16 MP dual rare camera which may support optical zoom. One of the camera lenses will have f/1.7 aperture and other camera’s aperture is not known yet. Some trending features like Bokeh effect in portrait mode will also be there.
It is also worth mentioning that the Xiaomi Mi 7 is expected to come with Android Oreo out of the box along with preinstalled MIUI 9. Moreover, it should get at least 2 major updates including Android P and Android Q.
The Mi 7 will also bring plenty of storage for you; either to select 64GB or 128GB as per your needs hopefully supported by microSD card slot this time. However, there will be a gigantic RAM of 6GB just like last year’s model.
The battery is expected to be 3350mAh which is exactly the same as Mi 6 battery. However, we may see wireless charging support as the Mi 7 is expected to come with a glass back.
Xiaomi is following the footsteps of the iPhone 7 to remove the headphone jack from the Mi 7. Audio will be routed via the USB Type-C port which is also used for charging and data transfer.
No Facial Recognition Sensor
Latest rumors also say that unlike most of the devices today, Xiaomi will not be using facial recognition sensor in Mi 7. We know that Xiaomi is working on this very technology for quite long ago but it seems that they are not feeling comfortable to bring facial recognition with Mi 7. That is why they have decided to stick with the fingerprint sensor; most probably at the rear due to bezelless display.
Pricing and Availability
Although Xiaomi has not provided an official release date of the Mi 7 but it is expected to see the official unveiling ceremony of Mi 7 to be held in China by the mid of April next year.
The Mi 7 is expected to bring price tag of CNY 2,769 (~PKR Rs 44,300) for the 64GB variant. However the higher-end variant with 128 GB will cost CNY 3,026 (~PKR 48,400).
