At an event held in China, Xiaomi announced an advanced as well as a watered-down variant of the company’s flagship smartphone Xiaomi Mi 8 launched a few months ago. The new entrants are dubbed as Mi 8 Pro and the Mi 8 Lite. The latter one is meant to lower the price tag by cutting down a few features of the elder siblings yet ensuring equally efficient.
The glass-bodied smartphone has a unique mirror effect applied using the mirror nano-dip plating process similar to that of Huawei P20 Pro. During the launch event, Xiaomi compared the new entrant with the recently launched iPhone XR, suggesting that the Mi 8 Lite has a slimmer, has minimal bezels, and has a smaller notch on top of the display.
Mi 8 Lite – Features
The Mi 8 Lite brings a bit larger notched Full HD+ screen on the front as compared to the Mi 8, measuring 6.26-inch in size with an aspect ratio of 19:9 and screen resolution of 2560 x 1080 pixels. The smartphone is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 660 AIE octa-core processor that gets coupled with Adreno 512 GPU. The handset features numerous memory combos based on RAM-ROM configuration that is 4GB/64GB, 6GB/64GB and 6GB/128GB.
The main camera setup on the rear of Mi 8 Lite brings the real cut down by offering a 12MP + 5MP lens setup as compared to duo of 12MP lens on Mi 8. In addition, the AI-based dual-camera setup is arranged horizontally along with an LED flash. The camera, however supports adjustable blurring intensity for the background and AI Scene Recognition feature.
On the other hand, the Mi 8 Lite embeds more powerful 24MP front-facing camera housed inside the top notch with Sony IMX576 sensor and f/2.2 aperture. Xiaomi claims that the front shooter is equipped new generation of AI Smart Beauty technology dubbed as AI Makeup Beauty that also supports AI Beauty feature for video recording.
The Mi 8 Lite runs Android Oreo operating system out-of-the-box with the company’s own MIUI custom interface on top. The device has the standard set of connectivity options including 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, and GPS. The smartphone gets fuelled by a 3,350mAh battery with support for fast charging technology.
Mi 8 Lite – Pricing and Availability
The Mi 8 Lite has already been offered for pre-booking in China with three gradient color options to choose from Dream Blue, Twilight Gold, and Black. The base model is priced at CNY 1,399 (~$204, PKR 25,200). The first shipping of the device is scheduled to be kicked off from September 25th onwards.
Xiaomi has not yet announced the international exposure of the Mi 8 Lite but it is expected that the affordable variant of Mi 8 series to enter emerging markets like Pakistan and India very soon. Stay tuned to know exact release date of Mi 8 Lite in your region.
