Xiaomi Mi MIX

Xiaomi is always in the headlines due to its innovative technology approach in introducing high-end smartphones at affordable prices. The new venture – Xiaomi Mi MIX is really technological genius with all sort of cutting edge technology included that stands it out to the front among the crowd.

There is another version of the Mi MIX – Xiaomi Mi MIX 18k. The 18K version uses 18K gold rims around the camera and the fingerprint sensor. It also comes with better internals than the regular Mi MIX.

Let us have a bird’s eye on its major differences from the other big names in the market. As you read more, you get impressed by the idea behind Xiaomi Mi MIX.

The smartphones features an all ceramic body having a MoHs hardness of 8 – one of the hardest substances used in smartphones; even the physical power button and volume keys are also made of same material. According to Xiaomi, the use of Ceramic represents almost 30% of the phone’s retail price alone.

It has an eye-catching larger display measuring 6.4 inches with 91.3% screen to body ratio. The Mi MIX stands in the same row of dead Galaxy Note 7, Mi Note 2 or the iPhone 7 Plus.

Another unique feature is the disposition of its earpiece that has moved inside and uses Cantilever Piezoelectric Ceramic drive unit instead. What does it mean? The phone will not emit sound via a speaker but a bone conduction will occur. Only you would hear, nobody else can peep into your privacy. Moreover, Xiaomi claims a better and clear sound quality even in noise.

The age of infrared proximity sensor is over; now is the time of ultrasonic proximity sensor that can work through even solid objects. Xiaomi has replaced conventional capacitive buttons with on-screen buttons thus ensuring more screen to body ratio. The display panel itself uses rounded corners to ensure equal space on the top and on the left and right sides of the display.

Xiaomi has moved the front camera from the top to the bottom of the screen for the first time in smartphones history. The camera sensor itself is about 50% smaller to allow for more screen space. Xiaomi was forced to move it down as there was no space for one due to the lack of bezels.

Xiaomi Mi MIX runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow, based on MIUI 8, under the hood using a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor. The RAM is set at 4 GB with internal storage capacity of 128 GB.

The internal storage uses the same high speed UFS 2.0 standard as in the Mi Note 2. Just like the Mi Note 2, the Mi MIX also offers high quality audio output of 24 bit/192 kHz through a Digital to Analog Converter (DAC).

On the other hand, Mi MIX 18K comes with the same processor but has 6 GB of RAM along with massive 256 GB of internal storage.

Just like the specs so far discussed, MIX camera is unusual as well. The smartphone uses a 16 MP main camera with phase detection autofocus at the rear. We have no details about the front shooter placed at the bottom front so far except that it has 5 MP lens and it is 50 percent smaller than the usual camera.

Xiaomi has been quite generous in offering powerful battery backup with their trend-changer smartphone Mi MIX. It uses massive 4400 mAh battery with Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0.

When we look into the price tags, Xiaomi is always there offering premium quality smartphones with reasonable burden on your pocket. Keeping in mind the high tech specifications one may think Mi MIX will stand in the same row of iPhone 7 or Galaxy Note 7 but it is not the case.

As we have mentioned earlier there are two variants of Mi MIX. The regular version having 4 GB/128 GB comes with official price tag in Chinese market of RMB 3,499 (PKR 54,200) whereas the Xiaomi Mi MIX 18K costs RMB 3,999 (PKR 62,000).
