Xiaomi, the fourth largest smartphone manufacturer, has achieved another milestone when its low-end device Redmi 5A has been accredited as the best-selling Android smartphone in the world for the month of March, 2018. This has been revealed in the monthly report published by Counterpoint Research – a global technology industry analysis firm.
Counterpoint Research Report for March 2018
According to the report, Apple’s iPhone X and iPhone 8 Plus managed to achieve the top two spots grabbing 3.5% and 2.3% market share respectively. Xiaomi’s Redmi 5A and OPPO A83 have surprised everyone by grabbing the number three and four spot in the report with 1.8% of market share each.
In this way, both these devices have become the best-selling Android smartphones worldwide. Counterpoint also noted this is the first time a Xiaomi smartphone has grabbed the number one spot in global Android smartphone shipments.
Counterpoint Research report makes it clear that the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ have helped Samsung double its share of the high-end market, but the Korean tech giant is not performing well in the mid-range and low-end category having stiff competition with Chinese brands like Xiaomi, OPPO and Vivo.
If you go through the report, it is quite evident that even Samsung’s latest venture Galaxy S9 was not able to compete with Xiaomi Redmi 5A and OPPO A83 while being ranked as the third best-selling Android smartphone around the world with 1.6% of market share.
Xiaomi Redmi 5A is one of the best low-end phones in the market released in November 2017 as a successor to the popular Redmi 4A, priced at around PKR 14,000. The device features a 5.0-inch 720p screen and gets powered by the quad-core Snapdragon 425 chipset while running on MIUI 9 out of the box – the latest software interface of Xiaomi.
The OPPO A83 debuted its global presence in January this year with a 5.7-inch HD+ (720×1440 pixels) LCD display having an 18:9 aspect ratio and a price tag of PKR 25,899. The device is powered by an octa-core MediaTek MT6763T processor clocked at 2.5GHz paired with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of native storage.
