Xiaomi has added another AI capable handset to its Redmi series, named as Redmi Y2. The smartphone gets its debut in India replacing the Redmi Y1 that was launched in November last year. Compared to its predecessor, the Redmi Y2 comes with numerous improvements like 18:9 display, improved processor, top quality selfie camera and dual rear camera setup.

Redmi Y2 – Features

The Redmi Y2 brings a metallic body finished with colors like Gold, Dark Grey and Rose Gold. The smartphone features a 5.99-inch IPS LCD screen on the front having FHD+ resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio. Xiaomi has used a Snapdragon 625 chipset under the hood to power up the device that offers two storage combo options; 3GB/32GB and 4GB/64GB. However, a dedicated microSD card slot is also there to further expand the memory.

The Redmi Y2 runs on Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box that is overlaid with a skin of MIUI 9.5. Xiaomi has used dual security options including an AI-based facial recognition through front camera and a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner. It does also include other usual connectivity features like 4G VoLTE, dual-SIM support, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, microUSB 2.0 and 3.5mm audio jack.

The photography department of Redmi Y2 is taken up by a dual camera setup on the rear that includes a 12MP and 5MP lens; exactly the same combination that was found on Redmi Note 5 Pro. It is equipped with dual-tone LED flash, AI portrait shots, AI low-light photography and HDR to maximize your photography experience.

The bestselling feature of the Redmi Y2 is the 16MP front-mounted camera that is equipped with soft-LED flash and AI capabilities. It has a large aperture f/2.0 and offers a field of view of 78 degrees. It can shoot better photos in low light by merging four pixels into a single Super Pixel that has a size of 2micron. The resultant images have reduced noise and better clarity.

The Auto HDR feature can automatically adjust the brightness while shooting photos. The Al Beautify 4.0 feature enhances 10 kinds of facial features like skin tone, eyes, nose and lips while capturing selfies. AI Portrait mode is an optimized feature that effectively blurs the background by focusing more on the subject.
