Xiaomi, the Chinese brand known for smartphones with amazing new features at an affordable price, has come up with the most anticipated Mi 6X at a media event in China. The smartphone remained in the rumors for quite a long time and likely to make its way to global markets as the Mi A2 – the successor to the Android One-based Mi A1.

Mi 6X Features

The Mi 6X looks like the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro in design features with vertically oriented dual camera setup and fingerprint sensor on the back. The Mi 6X also comes with Face Unlock to complete the package in the field of secure environment.

The Mi 6X packs a large 5.99-inch IPS FHD+ panel with 1080p resolution. The phone is considered to be a powerhouse when it comes to the processor; as Qualcomm’s prime mid-range SoC – the Snapdragon 660 lies under the hood with its two clusters of quad-core Kryo 260 cores clocked at 1.8 GHz and 2.2 GHz to power up the device.

The phone comes in three variants in terms of storage and RAM; 4GB/64GB, 6GB/64GB and 6GB/128GB. However, the internal storage is also expandable via a hybrid microSD/SIM card slot.

The phone is running Android 8.1 Oreo and comes with Xiao Ai, Xiaomi’s in-house AI based virtual assistant. The AI is capable of translating menus and signboards you see using your phone’s camera. If you’re watching a video, the AI will let you purchase whatever you’re watching in the video easily. Another feature is that it can calculate calories in a food item if you point the camera at it.

Connectivity options include IR sensor and Bluetooth LE while another welcome change is the addition of USB-C as well as the inclusion of Quick Charge 3.0. However, a major omission is the 3.5mm headphone jack that is still considered as a commonplace in midrange phones.

As far as cameras are concerned, the Xiaomi Mi 6X offers a dual 12MP + 20MP camera setup at the back along with a 20MP sensor at the front. The dual camera comes with AI enhancements for over 200 scenes including 12 different portrait modes. Meanwhile, the front camera has a Selfie LED light module and the latest version of Beautify.

Mi 6X Pricing and Availability

Xiaomi has introduced Mi 6X in five different color options including Red, Blue, Black, Gold and Rose-Gold for sale in China as for now. However, considering the point that Xiaomi has a special focus on emerging markets like India and Pakistan, we will likely see the phone making its debut in these markets in coming weeks.
