As reported earlier on these pages, Xiaomi has announced the arrival of Mi 2 and Mi A2 Lite at an event held in Madrid, Spain on Tuesday. Truly speaking, both these phones are Android One editions of the China-specific duo of Mi 6X and Redmi 6 Pro thus minusing MIUI 9 skin on top. The Chinese tech giant has also promised to upgrade the new siblings to Android 9.0 at the earliest.
Mi A2 – Features
The Mi A2 features arc-shaped aluminum unibody that houses a 5.99-inch IPS LCD display on the front having an aspect ratio of 18:9 and FHD+ resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels. The screen is protected by a layer of 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 3.
Xiaomi has powered the Mi A2 with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 660 octa-core chipset paired with three sets of memory combos – 4GB/32GB, 4GB/64GB and 6GB/128GB.
The photography department is taken up by a dual camera setup on the rear consisting of a 20MP Sony IM376 primary sensor with f/1.75 aperture and a 2-micron 4-in-1 Super Pixel for capturing brighter shots in dim light conditions. The main sensor is assisted by another 12MP Sony IMX486 secondary sensor with 1.25-micron pixel and f/1.75 aperture. The front side of the smartphone is equipped with 20MP AI powered selfie snapper for capturing selfie shots with bokeh effect.
The Mi A2 is a dual SIM supported device by default that runs on Android 8.1 Oreo OS out of the box. Other prominent features of the device include rear-mounted fingerprint reader, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0 and 3.5mm audio jack.
The smartphone is fuelled by a 3,000mAh battery that carries support for Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging through USB-C.
Pricing and Availability
The MI A2 is offered for sale in three color options to choose from Black, Gold and Blue. Although no date has been announced for its availability in Pakistan yet it’s guaranteed to be launched here in coming days.

Mi A2 Lite – Features
The Mi A2 Lite, being the cheaper and trimmed down version of its elder sibling, lacks some of the good stuff but comes with a large battery and a notched display to make up for it. The handset is fitted a notched IPS LCD screen on the front measuring 5.84-inch in size with an aspect ratio of 19:9 and Full HD+ resolution of 2280 x 1080 pixels.
The Snapdragon 625 SoC that powers multiple Xiaomi phones is present under the hood of the Mi A2 Lite. Xiaomi claimed that it is the first entry-level phone to feature the SD625 chipset. Howevr, you have only two memory combos to choose from 3GB/32GB and 4GB/64GB.
The Mi A2 Lite has a dual camera module on its rear shell, comprising of a 12MP primary sensor with 1.25-micron pixels and another 5MP secondary sensor. Whereas, the notch at the front houses a 5MP selfie shooter.
The Mi A2 Lite is also a dual SIM supported handset that runs Android 8.1 Oreo under the hood. Other notable features of the phone include rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, 4G connectivity, microUSB 2.0 and 3.5mm audio jack.
The Mi A2 Lite is equipped with more powerful battery backup of 4,000 mAh that can easily last for two days (as claimed by Xiaomi).
Pricing and Availability
The Mi A2 Lite is offered for sale in the same color options of Mi A2; that is Black, Gold and Blue. Like its elder sibling, no launch date has been announced for Mi A2 Lite in Pakistan but it is likely to enter along with the Mi A2 in coming days.
