The Redmi series of Xiaomi has proven itself successful; mainly because of manufacturing budget friendly smartphones without compromising on performance or essential features. The Redmi Note 5A is the latest of the series launched at an event held in Beijing, China. It is considered to be the successor to the Redmi Note 4A that is still available in the market.
The Redmi Note 5A encompasses a sleek metal unibody with capacitive navigation buttons on the front. Xiaomi has put antenna bands and primary camera with LED flash on the back. The bottom of device carries the USB Type-C port and the dual speaker grilles whereas the 3.5mm headphone jack is placed on the top. We also see fingerprint sensor for the higher end models.
The Note 5A brings a 5.5-inch IPS display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels – big enough to enjoy games and various other forms of multimedia.
When we go deep inside, we find the Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 or 425 processors. The former one comes with the choice of either a 3 GB/32 GB variant or a 4 GB/64 GB model. However, the latter one is stuck with the 2 GB/16 GB variant of the Note 5A.
On the OS front Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A features Android 7.0 Nougat with MIUI 9. As far as skins go, MIUI is well optimized and doesn’t lag at all.
On the camera front the Note 5A carries a 13 MP, f/2.2 aperture primary camera on the back along with an LED flash. Xiaomi has introduced much better 16 MP front shooter for selfie enthusiasts with the high end models. However, the lowest end variant of the Note 5A is stuck with a 5 MP shooter instead.
There is a 3,080 mAh battery to keep everything powered up. Given the low-res screen and MIUI’s well-known optimizations, a battery of this size will provide some very good backup time.
